How-to · siding

How to pressure wash a house without scarring the siding.

Match the fan to the wall, keep soap after the pump, and work shade-to-shade. Soft-wash bleach is a different job — this sequence is the wide-fan house wash.

Never 0° red on siding, windows, or a garage door. A pinpoint tip stripes paint and will chew caulk. Bleach, toilet cleaner, and other oxidizers never go through the pump inlet. Soft-wash sodium hypochlorite is a different job, metered after the pump — not this kit.

This is the job sequence behind the house-wash kit. It assumes a washer with a 40° / 25° tip and a downstream soap path. Size the hole on the orifice chart if your stamped PSI and GPM sit outside the homeowner-gas band.

The sequence

Five passes. One wall.

1

Wide fans only

40° white for soap and rinse. 25° green only on stubborn spots, and only with standoff. The 0° red tip in a 5-pack stays in the drawer — it stripes paint, chews caulk, and will punch a vinyl panel.

2

Pump-safe soap, downstream only

House-and-siding concentrate goes through a foam cannon, soap tank, or other path after the pump. The inlet still sees water. Bleach, toilet cleaner, and oxidizers never go through the pump.

3

Soap bottom to top, in the shade

Start low so the mix does not dry in streaks as you work up. Dwell a few minutes. Do not let it bake on sun-hot vinyl or painted wood.

4

Rinse top to bottom with 40°

White 40° from the eaves down so dirty water does not streak a clean wall. Keep the fan moving. Stay off window seals, garage-door panels, and close-range glass.

5

Reach fascia without a ladder circus

A 20″ extension wand helps first-story fascia and porch ceilings without standing in the flower bed. Confirm the wand’s PSI rating meets your stamped pump number.

Why 40° is the siding tip

Vinyl, aluminum, wood, brick, and stucco want a wide, forgiving fan. White 40° is the soap and rinse workhorse. Green 25° can lift stubborn algae or dirt if you keep distance and keep the wand moving. The yellow 15° and red 0° in a 5-pack are for other jobs — not walls, not glass, not a painted garage door.

  • Hold standoff. Closing in with 25° is how you etch paint and lift caulk.
  • Do not pin the fan on a window, a door seal, or a light fixture.
  • Confirm orifice on the tip chart before you click a pack.

Soap chemistry stays after the pump

A peroxide house-and-siding concentrate is pump-safe when it never meets the inlet. Foam cannon, soap tank, or another downstream path — the washer still pumps water. The foam and soap guide is the chemistry path.

Sodium hypochlorite house wash (soft-wash) is out of scope here. That mix wants an injector, X-jet, or pump sprayer after the pump, and it is not the soap in this kit. Do not improvise bleach through the inlet.

Worked pair: 40° white to soap and rinse, 25° green only with standoff on spots, house-and-siding concentrate downstream, optional 20″ wand for first-story fascia. That is the house-wash kit.
